Bug in Skype Allows Messages to be Sent to Unintended Users

Monday, July 16, 2012
Internet telecommunications provider Skype have today announced a fix to a flaw in their popular Instant Messenger system that allows a conversation intended to be read by two people to be unwillingly sent to a third-party. Instant Messaging is a form of private chat room akin to SMS Text Messages. Skype provide their IM service for free as an additional feature to their Voice Over IP (VOIP) solution.
The problem was first known to be reported by user 'SunnyLady78' on the official Skype website's message board on Tuesday 10th July 2012. The user explains how threads of a conversation originally directed to them were passed on to another user from their account.
Few days ago one friend from my contact list has received few messages I had already received before from other my skype contact. It seemed these messages were sent by me. It is really confusing.
Via a statement to AOL owned technology news website TechCrunch, Skype informed users that a fix will be released in the next few days for download.
We are aware in rare circumstances IM’s between two contacts could be sent to an unintended third contact. We are rolling out a fix for this issue in the next few days and will notify our users to download an updated version of Skype
This came after 'Claudius', Community Manager for Skype informed users of the message board that they were investigating the problem on Friday 13th July 2012.
The official Skype website has yet to be updated with information regarding the problem or the upcoming fix.
